Let’s get this out of the way: you don’t have to be “good at taking photos” to get beautiful ones. If you’re camera shy, awkward in front of the lens, or just not sure what to do with your hands—you’re not alone.
Most of the couples I work with aren’t models—they’re real people who want to celebrate their connection without feeling stiff or staged. And the good news is, that’s my specialty: creating space for you to feel comfortable, connected, and most importantly—yourselves.
1. Start with Movement, Not Posing
Instead of jumping right into poses, we begin with simple movement—walking, talking, interacting with the space around you. That could mean strolling through your favorite NYC park, grabbing coffee in your neighborhood, or just hanging out on your stoop. This helps you relax and forget the camera is even there.
2. Focus on Each Other, Not the Lens
One of my favorite prompts is: “Just be together.” You don’t have to look at me the whole time. Look at each other. Whisper something silly. Share a memory. I’ll guide gently when needed, but the best photos come when you’re lost in the moment, not focused on the shot.

3. Choose a Location That Feels Familiar
You’ll feel more at ease in a place you already love—like your go-to park, favorite coffee shop, or even your apartment. When the environment feels comfortable, your energy shifts. Suddenly, we’re not doing a “photo session”—we’re just documenting a moment in your life together.
4. Wear What Makes You Feel Like You
Confidence is key—and it starts with what you’re wearing. Skip the trendy stuff if it doesn’t feel right. Go for outfits that reflect your style, that you can move in, and that make you feel good. Comfort always photographs better than discomfort, no matter the trend.
5. Give Yourself Permission to Be Unfiltered
It’s okay to laugh too hard. It’s okay if your hair moves in the breeze. It’s okay if you aren’t sure what to do every second. The quirks, the pauses, the unexpected in-between moments—that’s the heart of a candid, meaningful photo session.
📸 You Deserve Photos That Feel Like You
Being camera shy isn’t a flaw—it’s just human. My job is to make your session feel less like a performance and more like an experience you’ll actually enjoy. I’ll guide you gently, cheer you on, and hold space for the real magic to unfold naturally.
